There may be minor differences at first. Don’t be concerned. Once your mouth is accustomed to the change, this should subside. Reading aloud is an excellent exercise for helping to restore normal speech quickly.
Some things to keep in mind as you adjust to your new dentures
Your dentures may feel loose. This may be because your facial muscles and tissues in your mouth need time to adapt to the dentures. If your dentures slip when you talk or laugh, you can reposition them by biting down and swallowing. If you have any concerns during this time, don’t hesitate to call us. We’ll be happy to set up an appointment so you can see the dentist.
You will have to learn to bite and chew a bit differently. Start with small portions of food, eat slowly, chew on both sides of your mouth, choose softer foods to build your confidence, and avoid hard or very sticky foods in the beginning.
You may notice minor differences in your speech. Your tongue, lips, and cheeks will need time to get accustomed to your dentures. Try reading out loud to yourself – it’s an exercise that will help you get back to your normal speech. Also, initially speak slowly to prevent muffled speech. If this becomes a prolonged issue, you may need additional adjustments.
We will work with you to make sure everything is right. It is important that you do not try to adjust your denture by yourself. You may jeopardize the treatment plan outlined by your dentist and the fit of your denture. Defects or damages resulting from any service adjustments or alterations of your denture by someone other than an authorized Aspen Dental representative are excluded from coverage under our warranty agreement and will render it null and void.
