Better oral health can mean a healthier life.

It’s important to practice good oral hygiene. The health of your mouth is linked to the health of your body and keeping both in good shape is essential. If you don’t take care of your oral health, you put yourself at risk for many dental problems and health issues.

So how can you ensure that you have good oral hygiene? Follow some of the simple steps below and be sure to talk with your dentist if you have any concerns about your oral health.

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day
  • Floss daily to get rid of food and bacteria that may have been left behind by your toothbrush
  • Visit your dentist every six months, or as recommended. Be sure you are going regularly, not just when you have pain
  • If you’re a smoker, quit. Smoking can put your mouth at risk for oral cancer and infection.
  • Be aware of what healthy gums should look like:
    • Pink in color
    • Gum line hugs teeth tightly
    • Your gums do not bleed when you brush
